Although we'd be happier to reduce our carbon footprint and burn less fuel, we also understand that to provide a good service we have to go the distance, therefore there is no limit to the range a surveyor will travel, however it may be more economical and environmentally friendly to choose more local surveyors for projects that are outside of the following regions: the North West, the Midlands, Yorkshire & the Humber.
A preliminary bat survey is a day-time inspection that looks for evidence of roosting bats and determines the suitability of structures in which bats are likely to roost. It also considers the surrounding habitat and whether bats have been recorded previously in the vicinity. It is normally the first assessment undertaken on a structure to determine if bats and their roosts are ‘reasonably likely’ to be impacted by a proposed development.
An emergence bat survey is conducted to determine the presence or absence of roosting bats within a structure, along with identifying species, behaviour, and quantity. These surveys are typically carried out at dusk when bats leave their roosts to forage and at dawn when they return to their roosting sites. Emergence surveys may be required within a planning application for development work that could endanger, or disturb bats on a site. At Emerge Ecology, we can provide an equipped surveyor to aid in collecting this data, with the use of our own EMT2 active bat detector.
A transect survey is a method of sampling a habitat by walking along a line/path and recording the occurrence of species or other features at regular intervals. It is used to investigate a gradual change in a habitat rather than to simply estimate the number of organisms within it. We can supply a single surveyor in order to undertake this survey which will provide a more uniform way of counting bats over time or across locations.
We understand that health & safety is at the forefront of most businesses, especially when sending surveyors to remote or hazardous locations without the ability to communicate long distance, therefore we can provide a safeguarding surveyor that can allow you to improve the speed of the task at hand, whilst increasing the health & safety of the lead ecologist in order to meet the needs of your Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
